David Pogue Treo 700p video review

In spite of being the geekiest pundit in the world, I think David Pogue really deserves his position on top of the technology totem. His perspective is dead-on as far as high end tech consumers go, and I cannot help appreciating his love for Palm and Mac.

Palm Treo Bluetooth headset

Wow, this looks like the Plantronics 645, but how great is it that it uses the Palm connector and is cheaper than the 645?

Personally, I have given up on Bluetooth headsets for the time being. Granted, I have not spent the money to get a top-notch one, but for the same reason that I am giving up. They tend to be crackly, need charging all the time, and just when you think "this is great! This thing is reliable and easy to use!" it will drop calls or not pick up when you press the button. That's just my experience. Hopefully you have had a better one.

But this Palm Ultralight Treo Bluetooth Headset is almost tempting me away from my Jabra wired headset - which never drops calls, needs charging, or requires a push of the button.

We were lucky enough to get our hands on a Treo 700p for the past couple weeks, and we have tested the SplashWallet applications to make sure they passed muster on the device.

They sure did, and it is a great device. The EVDO wireless broadband makes for quick downloads of bank data in SplashMoney, and SplashPhoto supports the Treo 700p's improved 1.3 megapixel camera, and its advanced rendering capability makes transferring and displaying photos over 50% faster.

Google maps on Series 60

I know this is old news, but I am a little slow. I just discovered today that Google did a nice job on porting Google Maps to mobile phones.

I have known this was available for a while, but I never tried it because it does not support Palm, and I mainly use a Treo 650. Not a problem since you can use Gmaps in Blazer ok.

But lately I have been carrying the Nokia 3230 around because of the small size and decent camera. So now I can try out Gmaps mobile!

It's great... Especially the ability to click dial a business you find. Imagine looking up "Thai" in an area you are visiting, see the results, click call for a reservation, then click for directions. All on a simple cell phone.
